Election Fever

Its election time again

1. Blasphemous speakers speaking in front of bought-out crowd.
2. Prejudiced, self-proclaimed leaders show deep concern and love for people. Roads blocked to pave way for the most important election procession.
3. Politicians become people-friendly. Promises made in abundance and are simply meant to be broken in the next 5 years.
4. Suddenly politicians speak about 'Principles', and cite them as reasons for hopping sides (many times) to make the best use of the opportunity. The parties who have changed sides justify their stand by questioning the veracity of their ex-allies as if they were blessed with an aureole overnight. They also without fail bring out the historical trends to prove a point "There are no permanent friends or enemies in politics".
5. Film stars are busy taking part in the election campaigns.
6. Satellite Channels broadcast steriotypic news - One characterising the rule as utopian while another characterising the rule as demonic in nature.
7. Magazines go bulky by carrying the results of the survey on the potential winner in each constituency.
8. Party candidates willing to invest their life-earnings hoping to plough them back after their win in the elections.
9. People are glad to receive the party candidates canvassing at their doorsteps for they very well know that this is the first and last time they will get to see them in the next 5 years.

Religion, Cast gains supreme importance. Even parties/allies who call them as secular forces, internally uses the cast as a primemost criteria to decide the contestants. These are the jokers who also talk about the great - Subramaniya Bharathi and quote his lines "Jaadhigal Illayadi Pappa".

All happening in a divine place called Tamilnadu where the principles and guidelines of real-time politics were laid down by respectable leaders like Shri.Kamaraj.

As a mark of respect to them, let the parties atleast not use these leader' names in any of their communications. Let their soul rest in peace.

Despite all the above disheartening points, its our right to Vote.
